Organization Chief Executive Officer Brighton Tembo says the lighter sentences that are handed to people who steal colossal sums of money is a draw back to the fight against corruption.
Reacting to the 15 month- jail sentence given to former development bank of Zambia Managing Director Samuel Bwalya who abused close to K1 million of state funds, Mr Tembo says if this trend continues in zambia, the fight against corruption will always be a mockery to the people of zambia.
He tells Phoenix News that the government, Anti-Corruption Commission-ACC- and the courts must be reminded that lighter jail sentences to people who steal and abuse public resources is an encouragement to corruption, not a deterrent.
