Energy Expert Johnstone Chikwanda is calling for urgent action to address the shortage of manpower to drive Zambia’s energy transition.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Dr Chikwanda says the severe shortage of skilled technicians in Zambia is hampering the country’s efforts to transition to renewable energy, particularly in solar power installations.
According to Dr Chikwanda, the nation is unprepared to produce the necessary workforce to support this energy shift, leaving many areas without qualified professionals to install solar systems both in rural and urban areas.
Dr Chikwanda says this manpower gap is slowing down Zambia’s progress toward adopting cleaner energy solutions.
He has further stressed the importance of re-training existing electricians to ensure they can handle the complexities of solar systems, as the current skills gap exposing many customers to hiring unqualified individuals.
