Two children, aged 8 and 9 from Muralo village in Chiwala area have died, in a tragic incident involving a stolen motor vehicle in Masaiti district on the Copperbelt.
According to Copperbelt province commissioner of police, Peacewell Mweemba, the tragedy happened when two unknown hijackers, who had stolen a grey toyota IST, sped away and hit the two children, identified as Sarah Musonda and Elizabeth Chama.
Mr. Mweemba has said in a statement, that the stolen vehicle was initially booked by the assailants from Jacaranda mall to Chiwala area, when they attacked the driver identified as Vincent Mwaba, with a metal bar, inflicting a deep cut on his head.
He says the injured driver managed to seek help at a nearby Zambia Army checkpoint and reported the incident to the police.
Mr. Mweemba says a medical report form has been issued to Mr. Mwaba, while a manhunt for the suspects who fled with the vehicle, before abandoning it and running on foot, is underway.
