Governance Activist Reuben Lifuka has warned against allowing political dominance in the impending constitutional reforms.
President Hakainde Hichilema recently disclosed that constitution reforms will proceed although various stakeholders have opposed the move, saying the reforms should be held after the 2026 elections as they need more time if they are to stand the test of time.
Reacting to this development, Mr. Lifuka says government must ensure there is meaningful public engagement so that the reforms can reflect the will of the people and not just the interests of politicians.
He says past mistakes where quality consultations were overlooked leading to the failure of the reforms must not be repeated.
Mr Lifuka says the public’s input to the reforms should not be undermined as the constitution belongs to the people and not politicians.
