Acting Auditor General Ron Mwambwa has dispelled reports in some sections of the media that reports of the Auditor General for the financial year ended 31st December 2023 deliberately excluded any audit findings with respect to the procurement of ambulances due to external instructions.
Dr. Mwambwa has clarified that the said transaction falls outside the scope of the auditor general’s reports for the financial year ended 31st December 2023 as the procurement contract for the 156 ambulances was signed on 10th may 2024 using Constituency Development Funds from the 2024 budget.
Dr. Mwambwa states that the claims are unfounded because the audit of local authorities, including the audit of the CDF for the financial year ended 31st December 2023 focused on funds that were allocated to 156 constituencies in 2023.
He has explained in a statement that the procurement of the 156 ambulances in 2024 will be covered in the 2025 audit of financial statements for the year ending 31st December 2024.
The Acting Auditor General has since advised members of the public to refrain from issuing unsubstantiated claims that have the potential to undermine trust in the office of the auditor general.
