The Advocates for National Development and Democracy -ANDD-is demanding that government clearly explains to the nation how power utility, ZESCO erroneously transferred US$80 million to Exim Bank of China.
Organization Executive Director Samuel Banda says in the interest of accountability and transparency, government must clearly explain how this mistake occurred, as he believes it is practically impossible for such a mistake to be made involving such a large sum of money, given the financial system controls put in place by the bank of Zambia.
And Mr. Banda says the decision by President Hakainde Hichilema to dismiss Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Christopher Simoonga for attempting to award himself a contract worth $6.8 million is a significant step toward fighting corruption and the abuse of public resources.
Mr. Banda says in the spirit of promoting accountability, transparency, and good governance, his organization commends President Hichilema for making the right decision and hopes other government officials will take this as a lesson not to engage in corrupt activities.
He has since called on the anti-corruption commission to now investigate the corruption at the ministry of health and those involved in attempting to abuse public resources and engage in corrupt activities must be held accountable.
