The Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition -CSO-Sun- Alliance is saddened by the projected heightened hunger situation as over 5.8 million people are likely to experience hunger, according to the food agriculture organization–FAO-.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Alliance Country Coordinator Daniel Kalala who has described the development as unfortunate says the situation calls for a multi-sectoral approach to cushion those affected.
Mr. Kalala says the country should also draw lessons from the experience and begin to embrace indigenous foods from various provinces as they are more tolerant and resilient to climate change.
He has called for the localizing of the country’s own food system noting that there is a need to encourage the country’s local foods.
FAO has projected that 5.8 million of Zambia’s population will experience increased hunger between October, 2024 and March, 2025, as the impact of the drought progresses.
