The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- has set Friday, 20th December, 2024 as the date on which the Kawambwa Parliamentary by election in Luapula Province will be held.
ECZ Senior Corporate Affairs Officer Sylvia Bwalya says the by-election in Kawambwa has arisen due to the conviction by the courts of law of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Nixon Chilangwa of the Patriotic Front.
Ms. Bwalya says the commission will on the same date also hold 2 ward by-elections in Kawama Ward in Chililabombwe District of Copperbelt Province and Lilondo Ward in Shang’ombo District in Western Province.
She says the vacancies in the two wards are due to the death of a councillor for Kawama Ward, Getrude Witola of the UPND on 24th October, 2024 and the resignation of a counselor for Lilondo Ward, Lipenta Lizina of the Patriotic Front on 1st October, 2024.
Ms. Bwalya has said in a statement that polls will take place from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours on Friday, 20th December, 2024 while nominations for the said by-elections will be conducted on Thursday, 21st November, 2024.
She says campaign period commences on Friday, 22nd November, 2024 at 14:00hrs and will end at 18:00 hours on Thursday, 19th December, 2024.
