Livingstone District Agricultural Coordinator, Chisha Sikazwe, has revealed that a total of 162 farmers in the district have been affected by fall armyworms.
Mr. Sikazwe has disclosed to Phoenix News in an interview that the dry spell, coupled with the army worm infestation, has left many farmers struggling to manage their crops and protect their harvests from further harm.
He says according to preliminary assessment, Livingstone East, Livingstone West, Nanzanzu, and Kasiya camps are the most affected areas where significant damage to the maize crop has been reported.
Mr. Sikazwe further states that farmers have been advised to use recommended pesticides, which are crucial to prevent damage and protect the remaining crops.
He adds that farmers have been advised to adopt integrated pest management practices to control pests with eco-friendly solutions rather than relying solely on chemicals.
