Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe will represent President Hakainde Hichilema at the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting-CHOGM in Apia Samoa.
The 27th summit, held biannually will take place from 21st to 26th October, 2024 and will convene under the theme: “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming Our Common Wealth.”
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, this year’s summit will provide a platform for Heads of Government, business leaders, and other stakeholders to address critical issues, including climate change, democracy, human rights, the rule of law, economic recovery, and empowerment for sustainable livelihoods.
The statement further states that key outcomes of the summit will include the adoption of a communiqué and statements from various commonwealth forums, while a significant agenda item will be the election of the next Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
The main summit will be preceded by the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Foreign Ministers Meeting which will take place on 24th October, 2024.
