Government says no life was lost as a result of the nationwide power outage experienced last night which also affected Zimbabwe and was restored at 06hrs this morning.
Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Ministry of Health Assistant Director Clinical Services Richard Nsakanya says all the hospitals especially in provincial headquarters were able to switch to alternative sources which include solar and generators within minutes and critical hospital installations were back online.
And Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary Peter Mumba has disclosed that during the power outage, miners at two mining companies were trapped underground but were rescued safely using alternative sources of energy available through Zesco’s collaborations with Ndola Energy and Copperbelt Energy Corporation-CEC.
Meanwhile, Acting Zesco Managing Director Justine Loongo has disclosed that the southern power pool will investigate the cause of the outage.
Mr. Loongo explains that power has since been restored to the rest of the country and that Zesco is still working on ensuring the country’s energy security is restored.
