ZUPED President Ronnie Jere says as government is opening other mines, it should consider resolving the issues surrounding KCM and expedite the opening of Mopani Copper Mines.
Mr. Jere tells Phoenix News that March is the month government promised to announce who will take over the running of KCM and has urged those in authority to acutalize this promise so that more job opportunities are opened up for the people on the Copperbelt and Zambia at large.
He has reiterated that Vedanta still remains the best option to over the operations at KCM and is hopeful that negotiations between government and Vedanta are going well so that an amicable solution is found before this monthend.
And Mr. Jere has commended government for living upto its conditions of unlocking the mines on the copperbelt such as the opening of Mimbula mine recently by President Hakainde Hichilema which is creating around 900 jobs for the local people in the area.
He has however reminded government to prioritize the working conditions of workers even as it unlocks the mining sector and opening other mines.
