Historian Eustone Chiputa says former President Edgar Lungu must provide evidence to substantiate his claims that the United States government imposed President Hakainde Hichilema on Zambians.
Mr Lungu is quoted in some sections of the media as having said the US government imposed President Hichilema on Zambians but that they should be ashamed because he has become a dictator.
Dr. Chiputa in an interview with Phoenix News notes that it is difficult for people now to believe Mr Lungu’s allegations, as they would have carried more weight if they were made prior to the 2021 general elections accompanied by evidence.
He says the sentiments by the former head of state are however not surprising as the relationship between the US government and Zambia during the Patriotic Front government was on a low-key.
