The annual inflation for September 2024 has increased to 15.6 percent from 15.5 percent recorded in august, 2024.
Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Zambia Statistics Agency-ZAMSTATS Statistician General Goodson Sinyenga says this means that on average, prices of goods and services increased by 15.6 percent between September 2023 and September 2024.
Mr Sinyenga says the country also recorded a trade deficit of K0.6 billion in august 2024 compared to the surplus of K1.4 billion recorded in July 2024.
He says exports mainly comprising domestically produced goods, decreased by 4.6 percent from 25.8 billion in July 2024 to 24.6 billion in August 2024.
Mr Sinyenga says this was mainly on account of decreases in export earnings from intermediate goods by 3.2percent, raw materials at 16.9 percent, and consumer goods at 16.9 percent and capital goods at 29.3 percent.
He says imports increased by 3.2 percent from K24.4 billion in July 2024 to K25.2 billion in August 2024 mainly as a result of increases in import bills of intermediate goods by 6.6 percent, consumer goods at 2.4 percent and capital goods at 0.4 percent.
