Kamfisa Member of Parliament Christopher Kang’ombe is urging the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development to quickly find lasting solutions to unsafe mining operations in different mining provinces to avoid further loss of lives.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Kang’ombe says government must recognize that young people want to participate in mining and there is no way to prevent them but instead facilitate safe mining.
He notes that the Ministry of Mines has announced general terms of how it is dealing with the problem but that there are no specific actions to address exact problems in different Provinces.
Mr. Kang’ombe is also of the view that from the policy and law point of view, there is nothing that needs to change as they are sufficient laws adding that what is left is action by government to ensure safe mining.
He suggests that government should consider getting on the ground and engage the various miners on safe mining to curb the escalating loss of lives.
