Lunte Member of Parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya has criticized the national assembly for its lack of transparency in handling debates on the implementation of the 2025 national budget.
Mr. Kafwaya has told Phoenix News that only one member of the 156-member house was allowed to debate the appropriation bill, which has already passed its second reading.
He says the opposition in parliament had no intention of halting the allocations to various sectors in the budget, but argued that, for the sake of promoting transparency and accountability, more MPs should have been given the opportunity to debate the bill.
Mr. Kafwaya says with the bill having passed the second reading, there will be no further debates, effectively closing the matter for discussion at this stage, and he believes the 2025 national budget does not inspire confidence due to the lack of transparency and accountability in the handling of the appropriation bill.
