The Mine, Contractors, Factory and Allied Workers Union- is disappointed at Zesco’s silence over reconnecting Manganese Mines in the central province at the expense of workers suffering.
Union General Secretary Levy Chimfwembe tells Phoenix News in an interview that Zesco has not made any statement regarding the power supply to the manganese mines that were cut off from the national grid in July this year.
Mr. Chimfwembe says the union was expecting Zesco to live up to its word according to the letter they issued before shutting down power to the mines, which indicated that the shutdown was only for two months but that the situation remains unchanged.
He says the situation is still bad, especially that the over 5000 workers that lost their jobs have no other source of income.
