Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo has disclosed that about 300,000 farmers in all the districts across the country have deposited their K400 contribution under the Farmer Input Support Programme-FISP- while over 100,000 farmers have redeemed their inputs.
Giving a Ministerial statement in Parliament this morning, Mr. Mtolo explained that as at 21st October, 2024, over 700,000 farmers had been identified out of the targeted over 1 million, representing 70.5 percent.
He says the direct input supply will target over 200,000 farmers in 42 districts while e-voucher will target over 700,000 beneficiaries in 74 districts countrywide.
Mr. Mtolo has further disclosed that as at 21st October, 2024, 41,312.50 metric tonnes of d compound out of 42,775.20 metric tonnes, had been delivered while out of the procured 42,775.20 metric tonnes of urea, 33,981.61 metric tonnes had been delivered.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mtolo has advised farmers in 14 districts among them Chama, Mafinga, Isoka, Nakonde, Chinsali, Mungwi and Senga to plant drought tolerant and climate resilient crop varieties, amidst the anticipated normal to below normal rainfall
