The Patriotic Front says it is seeking a well-defined alliance with opposition political alliances to form a formidable opposition ahead of the 2026 general election.
Party Media Director Edwin Lifwekelo has disclosed that the Patriotic Front being the largest opposition political party in Zambia is already engaging various political alliances to find ways in which they can work together ahead of 2026.
Mr. Lifwekelo tells Phoenix News that Zambians are looking for an alternative to the current regime, hence the reason the PF is engaging some political alliances in order to form a formidable and well-defined opposition that will win the 2026 elections.
He has clarified that the PF is not in any specific alliance and says it is imperative that the former ruling party forms an alliance with other existing alliances for a strong opposition.
Meanwhile, Operation Young Vote Executive Director Guess Nyirenda has called on opposition political parties, particularly the Patriotic Front to strengthen their unity and position themselves as a viable alternative to the UPND government ahead of the 2026 election.
Mr Nyirenda says the PF, as the largest opposition party, must not be allowed to collapse because Zambia needs a strong opposition to ensure that the UPND delivers on its promises and meet people’s expectations.
According to Mr Nyirenda, the survival of the PF is crucial for maintaining political balance in Zambia, as a lack of opposition could lead to a one-party state-like situation, which would not benefit the citizens.
