Several livestock in Gwembe District are dying due to drying up of water sources and lack of adequate grazing areas caused by the previous poor rainfall pattern.
Gwembe Member of Parliament, Tyson Simuzingili, who disclosed the development says all grazing areas in most parts of the district have completely dried up, leaving livestock with nowhere to graze from.
Mr. Simuzingili says the situation is dire and has caused serious panic and stress among livestock owners, who do not have means to ensure that their animals are well taken care of.
He has since appealed to government, through the ministry of livestock and fisheries, to expedite the distribution of hay and stock feed planned as part of the hunger mitigation measures to prevent more animals from dying.
And some livestock owners have appealed to government to consider drilling more boreholes to make it easy for them to water their animals.
