Zambia has become the latest council member of the Global Green Growth Institute-GGGI; dedicated to promoting sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.
The GGGI is an international organization formed in 2012, comprising of 48 members and is currently chaired by former Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki Moon.
Zambia was unanimously elected at the 13th session of the assembly and the 17th session of the council at GGGI Headquarters in Seoul, Korea.
And speaking during a ministerial panel discussion under the theme: “addressing plastic pollution in context of green growth”, Green Economy and Environment Minister Mike Mposha said Zambia is facing an escalating waste management problem that has negatively impacted its economic, environmental and social sustainability.
Mr. Mposha however says the waste is also providing opportunities for investment saying there are many opportunities in Zambia in developing waste-to-energy projects, waste-to-compost, to support urban agriculture and scientifically engineered landfills.
